Paronomía
Performance with Fabiana Vinagre
Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid 2018

Paronomy refers to the relationship between words that have a similar structure and/or phonetics but a totally different meaning (paronyms). This exercise aims to create linguistic relationships by expanding the way we hear and interact with words beyond their meanings, generating a more intimate experience with them. This is an exercise of duration composed of two people sitting face to face with a book each (of their own choice and according to their identity). Participants have to turn the pages of each other’s book, one by one, without touching their own book. On each page a random word is read alternately. They do this until both books are finished. The non-hierarchy of the words read puts the participants in a personal relationship with the word, which is perceived not only by its meaning, but also by its resonances and encounters, transforming the reading into a collective and poetic ritual.
